Music for Inner Exploration

3 min read

Music can change the felt quality of an experience in ways that words sometimes cannot. This is a personal collection of playlists, albums and spoken pieces that I find interesting in the context of presence, inner exploration and psychedelic work. It is not a prescription for what anyone should listen to. Musical response is deeply individual, and what feels supportive to one person may feel distracting or emotionally strong to another. I offer these simply as places to begin listening and noticing what resonates with you.

Where music is used alongside psychedelic experiences, the setting, preparation, personal history and relationship to the music all matter. These links are shared as listening resources, not as instructions for psychedelic use or as a substitute for appropriate professional or medical support.

Psilocybin Journey

Playlist by Cozy Universe

A journey-oriented collection for immersive listening. I include it as an option for times when music is being used as a spacious companion to inward attention, reflection and emotional movement.

Johns Hopkins Modern Psychedelic Playlist

Playlist by Rooster

A modern playlist inspired by the role music has played in psychedelic research. The broader Johns Hopkins approach uses music deliberately across the arc of a session - from arrival and ascent through peak experience and return - as a form of non-verbal support.

Johns Hopkins Psychedelic Therapy Playlist

Playlist by Gr8fuldrummer

Another interpretation of the Johns Hopkins psychedelic-therapy listening tradition. I offer it as a different musical route through the same broad intention: allowing music to provide structure while leaving space for an individual's own inner experience.

The Butterfly's Whisper

Playlist by Kais Sellami

A spoken-audio addition to the collection rather than a music playlist. I have kept it here because voice, reflection and guided listening can offer a different kind of companionship from purely instrumental music.

Kiyumi

Playlist by Bjarki Steinn

A curated listening collection that offers another texture within this resource. I like having several different musical possibilities available, because the music that feels supportive, beautiful or spacious is deeply individual.

Lovingly - Guided

Playlist by East Forest

A two-hour sequence of guided music meditations. East Forest combines long-form music with spoken guidance, creating an experience that can support presence, inward attention and the movement between listening, feeling and witnessing.

Johns Hopkins Psychedelic Therapy Playlist

Playlist by SoundMind Psychedelics

A further curated version of psychedelic-therapy music associated with the Johns Hopkins tradition. Its place here is less about finding one 'correct' soundtrack and more about offering choices: different people respond very differently to voice, instrumentation, intensity and familiarity.

Ram Dass

Album by East Forest & Ram Dass

East Forest weaves music around recordings of Ram Dass, bringing spoken teachings on awareness, nature, the mind, love and the witness into an atmospheric musical setting. I particularly value the way it allows words and music to become part of the same contemplative experience.
